Hello and thank you for your interest. The Aspire Trench 3L certainly has all the technical features needed for backpacking and should serve you well in keeping you dry. Our biggest concern is the actual cut of the jacket as the extended length may inhibit your walking motion and could hinder a proper fit between the harness and the belt. The Aspire trench is best suited for everyday tasks and around town adventures. We'd recommend the regular Aspire jacket for your backpacking needs.
